Assisting Attorney's to Achieve Favorable Outcomes
Melanie Canning BSN, RN
I have been a Registered Nurse for over 18 years. During this time, I have worked in the Stroke Unit, Emergency Department and Interventional Radiology. Working in an acute care setting for the last 18+ years has provided me with extensive knowledge in all aspects within the hospital. Current certifications include Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support and NIH Stroke Scale (National Institute of Health). I am an active member of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants along with the Orlando Chapter.
I currently work in the inpatient setting while raising my family in the sunshine state.
By bridging the gap between the legal and the medical world, legal nurse consultants possess specialized knowledge. Knowledge in medical terminology, procedures, and standards of care. Helping to enable the attorney interpret and analyze medical records accurately- is time saving.
Yes it is! The analysis of medical records can be completed in a fraction of the time it would take an attorney or paralegal. Not only can the Registered Nurse analyze the records efficiently, the nurse also understands the concepts, policies, procedures, and protocols that envelop in the medical environment.
As soon as an attorney receives a prospective case, it is ideal to bring in the knowledge of an LNC (Legal Nurse Consultant) immediately. Once onboard, the LNC can assess the strengths and weaknesses of a case, helping attorneys understand the medical aspects and how they relate to the legal issues at hand.
